Ross Creek Cedars are located in Montana off Highway 56 about 4 miles down NF 398. There is good signage on the highway indicating where the road is. The road is decent most of the way, altho there are places where it narrows quite a lot. There are pullouts for allowing opposing traffic to pass, but I would suggest taking it easy to avoid any surprises on the corners. Take your time and enjoy the mountain views. This road is paved all the way to the trailhead, so anyone can get up there.

Ross Creek Cedars present a very approachable trail for people of all ages and fitness levels. The trail is wide and has a lot of signage so that you do not get lost as there are a few other trails that break off from the main loop. The vault toilets would be better if people could read the signs and leave the lids down, but at least there were bathrooms available. The creek was devoid of water for the most part, so bring some for your pets. There are a few picnic tables for day use and according to the forest service website, there is no camping available. There is a campground about 4 miles from the trail head, however, so you can spend the night near the grove. There are also signs that can be used for educational purposes, which I really appreciate.

So long as you do not mind crowds, I would recommend at least one visit to the Ross Creek Cedar grove. It seems pretty accessible to most everyone and has some very large and old cedar trees. The hiking is kid friendly, and the temperature under the canopy is at least 5 degrees cooler than the parking area, which was 15 degrees cooler than the valley on the day I went. Hiking on the north or south Ross Creek trails will get you away from the crowds a little so that you can enjoy a touch of mountain silence if you need that.
