This weekend my step-daughter and I went to Winchester Lake State Park for her first motocamping trip. I only mention this so that the two bikes/tents makes sense to everyone. Winchester Lake is about 37 miles south of Lewiston, ID on US HWY 95. All of the road is paved to the campground, and all the roads within the park that we encountered were paved as well; the only gravel we touched was the parking area for our site.

The campsites are nice, with picnic tables, fire pits, and a tent pad large enough for both of our tents. The lake is not far away from any of the campsites, with access to docks and water just a short walk away from any spot you are temporarily calling home. The campground also has four yurts for rent if you do not want to rough it too much. Fishing can be done from all the docks or the bank. There is a fish cleaning station near the camp host, which is also near one of the many bathrooms available in the campground. From previous ventures here, bass, blue gill, and crappie are all available for catching. I have heard of tiger muskie being caught there, and apparently you can catch catfish because of the notices at the fish cleaning station regarding the disposal of their corpses.

Overall, Winchester Lake is not a bad place to spend a night, so long as you do not mind having a lot of people around. The price for a campsite is reasonable for tent camping and reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. The neighbors that we had were quiet for the most part, and one was especially nice and shared some Tri-Tip that he had slow roasted. The coyotes and geese were noisy during the dark hours, but that is nature, I guess. There is a convenience store in Winchester and a gas station/rest stop just a couple miles outside of town if you forgot anything. There is also a museum in Winchester, but I have not been to it.
