Elk Creek Falls in Idaho is the tallest falls in the state. The trailhead has a small picnic area with a couple of tables and a vault toilet. It can be accessed by taking ID-8 E towards Elk River. About 2 miles from Elk River there will be a sign and a couple of gazebos at the intersection. You will have to travel a couple more miles on a narrow-ish dirt road, but it is not that bad. Watch for potholes and blind corners and you will be fine.

Departing from the parking area, the trail is nice and wide. There are some educational signs along the way explaining how this section of the trail was once a roadway for the loggers and settlers in the areas. The trail does grow narrower and steeper. AllTrails calls this hike moderate, and I tend to agree with this assessment. There is a loop that will take you to viewing areas for the upper and middle falls, but there is a spur that you have to take in order to reach the lower falls. The upper falls provide the only easy access to the water, so if you have a critter with you, you may want to bring some water for them just in case. To see all three falls typically takes me about an hour and a half or so, depending on how much time I spend taking photos.

Over all, I think this is a very pleasant waterfall to visit, especially when it is warmer in the valleys as the elevation gain does help to make it a little more temperate. Water flows are best in the early spring. I have not tried to visit before May, so I do not know what conditions are like in the colder part of the year. Elk River is a nearby town which offers some amenities like lodging, bars, and restaurants. I have not really spent time there, so I cannot make any recommendations at this time for anything.
