This is the first time that I have camped within city limits. It was not quite what I was expecting. This campsite is in the City of Libby Fireman’s Park. Camping for tents or campers is $10 a night. The sites all have a fire pit, picnic table, and a nice flat area for tents. The campground was only about a quarter full when I was there, but it was nice and quiet. I would recommend a site away from the grocery store if possible, but the HVAC system was relatively quiet and for me, simply added a bit of ambience, much like a stream flowing off in the distance. Traffic noise existed, but was not horrible or made sleeping difficult.
Restaurants that I have frequented in Libby are the Venture Inn, Henry’s, and Switchback Bar and Grill. Henry’s is great for breakfast. The Venture Inn has good food at decent prices and fairly large portions, at least in my opinion. Switchback had good food and atmosphere and the portions and price were moderate.
This trip, I made a visit to the Libby Dam, about 17 miles north of town. The road travels along the Kootenai River and offers some scenic views. Once at the dam, there is a scenic overlook as well as a recreation area a little to the north that offers day tables and swimming. There is also a small playground for children to play in.

Libby Dam from a little ways downstream, near David Thompson bridge. Alexander Creek, offering a few campsites and a boat launch, are nearby also.

Tables with fire pit for cooking. Playground visible in the right of the image.
